The impetus of our Chestnut Hill client’s renovation was a bathroom plumbing water leak that caused extensive damage to the kitchen below. The homeowner came to us wanting to maintain the historic feel of the beloved 1900 home but increase its functionality and refresh its aesthetic appearance. We exceeded the goals by keeping the existing kitchen floor plan, using a combination of existing and new appliances and plumbing fixtures, including an antique Kohler sink, and refurbishing the wood countertops. Existing cabinetry was repainted and rearranged with new cabinetry for increased storage efficiency. New wood flooring, overhead and accent lighting, and satin brass hardware give a fresh feel to the kitchen while the counter seating with its pop of red accent fabric festively compliments the verde green cabinetry.
In contrast to the kitchen floor plan, we gutted the existing second floor bath and rearranged it for better flow. It now includes a large walk-in shower, freestanding soaking tub, and double sink soapstone vanity counter with cabinetry storage. A palette of gray, black, and white with an accent of muted blue vertically installed wall tile creates a relaxing, spa-like feel to the bath. Existing wall framing was utilized for a convenient ledge in the new shower. Recaptured space from the efficient new bath floor plan allowed us to incorporate a separate water closet in the bathroom and allocate nearby second floor space for a new laundry closet with shelving and full size stacked washer and dryer, appliances that were formerly in the basement. This renovation showcases an exceptional combination of new and historic features for this delighted homeowner!
