Our Flourtown clients wanted their split-level home to be more functional for their family. The kitchen was closed off, tight, and secluded from the rest of the main living floor. Their lower level, containing the family, powder, and laundry rooms, lacked continuity with the rest of the home and was also in need of a transformation. To maximize their goals, we moved the kitchen across the home to the existing living room location. This allowed the creation of a generously expanded kitchen with a fully functional “L” corner configuration, and an island with seating. The striking black hood with flanking ceiling-suspended shelves, 48” wide gas range, and full-height backsplashes are just a few of the kitchen’s new amenities. Panel-ready refrigerator/freezer appliances conceal the units and give the illusion of endless storage space. A built-in nook bench increases seating and furthers the kitchen’s expansive and open new feel. A designated home office now occupies the original kitchen location with double pocket French doors that can remain open without taking up useful floor space. The office features color drenching in a rich dark teal for a contemporary look.
Rooms within the lower level were also fully remodeled. Very intentional yet simple changes in the family room, such as painting the fireplace stone as well as new flooring and lighting, have transformed it into a cozy, hangout space. New laundry cabinetry and countertops, along with swapping the closet access from the living room to the laundry, maximize its storage and functionality. A fun, patterned wallpaper and green wall-hung sink have turned an ordinary powder room into an eye-catching design feature.
The transformed home is gorgeous, now offering continuity in style and finishes on both main and lower-level floors. Medium wood tone luxury vinyl plank flooring provides continuity throughout the remodeled spaces and is complemented with fresh white walls, ample recessed lighting, and black accents. The family will be enjoying their remodeled home, with increased functionality and aesthetics, for many years to come!
