The Highlands Gardener’s Cottage is a part of The Highlands Mansion and Gardens, a historical landmark and event facility. Our client asked us to renovate the rundown, dated Gardener’s Cottage and transform it into a beautiful, functional space for use as a rental property.

On the first floor, we relocated the kitchen to the front of the house and added modern amenities. The former kitchen space became a mudroom and pantry with much needed storage and access to the remodeled powder room. An enlarged deck off the rear of the house was added, capturing the perfect backdrop of gorgeous grounds for entertaining while offering plenty of privacy.

The second-floor plan was also reconfigured enabling three spacious bedrooms, two baths, and an office/laundry room. The addition of a second bath resulted in a master suite, valuable for both rental purposes and home enjoyment. The laundry was relocated to the second floor for convenience.

As many features of the original home were salvaged as possible including original door hardware, built-in cabinetry in the powder room, an original clawfoot tub in the hall bath, and charming, deep-seated arched windows throughout the house.

The stunning, completed project features fresh aesthetics, state-of-the-art amenities, efficient and effective new floor plans, and eye-catching cabinetry. The Gardener’s Cottage has been successfully transformed into a great rental property that can accommodate a growing family or anyone needing an updated, beautiful space to call home.
