Our Maple Glen clients built their home a few decades ago and realized it was time for a remodel so they could age in place. They were seeking a transformation that included not just aesthetic changes but functionality for their current and future needs.
As you come into the center of the home, what was once a cluster of separated spaces now feels like one great room! To accomplish this, we opened up the main bearing wall that divided the kitchen and dining room and removed a wall between the foyer hallway and dining room combining everything into one. The kitchen is now equipped with new stainless-steel appliances, a large pantry closet, and an expansive island with seating. The formal dining room is now integrated with the kitchen. We repurposed the floor space formerly used for a “nook” table and created a beautiful “L” shaped table-height countertop overhang for casual meals at the new kitchen island. As you move towards the garage, we left the overall footprint of the laundry room the same but added cabinetry so it could serve as an efficient “mudroom” as well. The space now includes a custom-designed bench flanked by tall storage cabinets on both sides. Additional cabinetry was added around the washer and dryer along with a coveted “landing zone” when you enter from the garage.
The primary bath was also a major focus of the home renovation. New vanity cabinets and a built-in bench became the perfect wall to replace an unused large tub and tiled tub deck. The location of the existing shower, once tucked away in a cramped corner, was swapped with a new water closet allowing the shower to expand in both size and shape. A tiled bench was incorporated for comfort and convenience as well as a recessed storage niche!
Additional projects also completed in this home include: new flooring throughout the first floor, new carpet on the stairs and 2nd floor hallway, new stair handrail/baluster staining, a new deck, and a full exterior siding replacement.
