We are pleased to share that our recent work on this home in New Hope has earned Harth Builders a Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) Award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. This marks our 10th Regional CotY Award! As a Regional winner, our project is now in contention for a National CotY in the category of Residential Interior Over $150,000.

For the owners of Angel’s Wend, a 1943 farmhouse in New Hope, the time had arrived to update their kitchen. Their goals were to improve the aesthetics, comfort, traffic flow, and functionality of the space. Like many homes built in the 40’s, the rooms in their farmhouse were small which made the living space feel cramped. As we walked around, we identified an underutilized room adjacent to the kitchen that we could expand into by removing a wall.

One of our client’s primary goals was to stay true to the architectural character of their home. Toward that end, they asked us to incorporate a number of vintage pieces they had found into the design. A porcelain double drain board sink that was salvaged and refinished became a sort of keystone for the kitchen. Another antique piece that was incorporated was the leg support the 3” cherry drift wood live edge peninsula island. That leg is actually a pump handle from a circa 1879 grind stone machine.

Another unique design element for this project can be found in the mudroom. In the process of trying to incorporate a utility sink where the family could wash their dogs, we instead developed a dog shower. This feature solved a problem for how our clients would get their very large pets in and out of a tub without straining
their backs. Now, the dogs simply hop up into the shower and have their muddy paws washed off with the handy spiral hose we installed.

This project is a wonderful example of how we collaborate creatively with clients to deliver home environments that exceed their expectations! To see more photos from the finished project click the link below.
