We’re just over halfway through 2019, but we’ve got a sneak preview of some of the upcoming trends for 2020. IKEA recently released its 2020 Catalog, giving us all a peek at a few of the big trends to look for next year and beyond..

We picked four design trends that will hit in 2020 that you can incorporate into your next home remodeling project — and stay ahead of the curve.

  1. Monochrome kitchens in full color: For the past few years, we’ve been seeing two-tone kitchen cabinets that create contrast between white wall cabinets and lower cabinets in darker hues like blue or black. Next year, look for those pops of color to take center stage. You can expect to see matching cabinets in bold tones.
  2. Irregular backsplash tiles: Say goodbye to subtle backsplash tiles. Look for irregular kitchen backsplashes that don’t fit flush with the cabinets to be a hit in 2020.
  3. Colorful bathroom tiles: Colorful tiles have gradually made their way into modern bathrooms this year, and by 2020 they’ll be their own major trend. With years of bright white bathrooms covering up the bright pastel pinks and blues from the 1950s, colorful tile is now making a comeback
  4. Pattern maximalism: Just like how colorful bathroom tiles have become a trend as a pushback against white, so has maximalism become a trend after a period where minimalism reigned. But for those who loved maximalism and minimalism, you can now get the best of both worlds. Pattern maximalism blends bold, eye-catching designs that work well together so you can enjoy the maximalist aesthetic without a maximum amount of stuff.
