Harth Builders Wins National Award for Whitemarsh Foundation Farmhouse Renovation
We are excited to share that Harth Builders has earned the prestigious 2017 National Contractor of the Year Award in the category of Commercial Exterior Renovation from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. Winners of the National CotY Awards were announced recently at NARI’s Evening of Excellence event held in Scottsdale, Arizona. Harth Builders was the sole winner in this category. The award winning project was a renovation they completed in 2016 on the Dixon Meadow House—a historic farmhouse owned by the Whitemarsh Foundation in Whitemarsh Township, PA.
Located on the Angus Tract of Erdenheim Farm in Whitemarsh Township, the farmhouse was originally constructed in the late 1850’s. Although it had fallen into a state of disrepair, the building remained structurally sound and featured exquisite architectural detail from that period. After conducting a successful capital campaign to raise the necessary funds to remodel, the Whitemarsh Foundation reached out to Harth Builders to renovate the property.
According to Gregory Harth, President of Harth Builders, this project was an exciting challenge for his design-build remodeling firm. “This project presented some unique design challenges. The historical character of the building needed to be preserved, yet significant changes had to be made to modernize and bring the building up to code. It was an honor and a privilege to be a part of restoring the grandeur, as well as the function, to this building.” View photos of the renovation.
Since its renovation, the Dixon Meadow House has become a living laboratory and learning center for meadow management, the study of flora, fauna, and birding. Educational programs are held year-round in conjunction with community partners including the Morris Arboretum, William Jeanes Memorial Library, Wissahickon Watershed and Whitemarsh Township. More information on the Dixon Meadow House is available on the Whitemarsh Foundation website.
