Recently we witnessed the 76th running of Formula One’s most storied race, The Grand Prix of Monaco. Celebrities and dignitaries were present for plenty of champagne and yacht parties. Prince Albert and Princess Charlene were in attendance and looking dapper as always.
While the turbocharged, V6 hybrid, Formula 1 cars do not reach their full potential on the streets of Monaco, they still need to be tuned to perfection to compete. The cars have numerous restrictions from the FIA as to how they can be built, how they operate, how much they weigh and how they communicate electronically with each team’s engineers.
There are hundreds of components to each car and they all need to work in unison to ensure that the car can finish the race without power failure, engine failure, excessive tire degradation and unnecessary pit stops.
It may seem like a strange comparison but Remodeling, if top quality results are desired, takes the same amount of code compliance, preparation, and integration of parts and pieces.
We can have the greatest vision for a remodeled space but if we can not support that vision with the proper structural engineering and architecture while exceeding minimum code standards, the car is essentially not ready to race.
Beyond the spatial planning of a project, a remodel also involves dozens, if not hundreds, of selections to be made. They all need to work with each other, compliment one another and be functional for the family that will live in and enjoy that space. If a Formula 1 car is not cohesive in its operation and not functional for the driver, it will fail.
When considering your next remodeling project, consider planning it in the way that Ferrari, Mercedes AMG and Red Bull plan for a race like Monaco, where the only option is success.
