Harleysville First Floor and Hall Bath

Our Harleysville client was ready for a dynamic refresh of their home interior, abandoning what they felt to be an outdated, traditional style typified by the ornate cherry cabinetry and detailing in the kitchen, arched transom windows in the adjacent family room, and curved, stained wood balusters and trim at the stairs. They were seeking a contemporary transitional look throughout their home which Harth’s team accomplished with gorgeous results. The kitchen now radiates a bright, fresh feel as visually heavy wall cabinets were eliminated and the two existing windows at the sink were replaced with four large windows, with sills aligned at the perimeter counter, maximizing natural light and nature views. New custom cabinets in Evergreen Fog paint at the perimeter and walnut stain at the island are complemented by easy-maintenance bright white quartz counters. A sleek stained walnut range hood with brushed gold accent band is flanked by wall sconces and subtlety paired with a partial height quartz slab backsplash capped by a shallow mitered quartz shelf. New wide plank white oak hardwood flooring is installed in the kitchen, family room, and adjacent rooms for seamless transition throughout the first floor.

To accomplish the client’s goal of better utilization, we introduced cabinetry at the nearby kitchen nook. The additional counter surface and under-counter beverage refrigerator, concealed by a custom door panel, provide the perfect bar set up while entertaining as well as easy access to the outdoor patio and pool via the new French door. Evergreen painted cabinetry, soapstone counter, hammered copper sink, and stained wood shiplap on the ceiling all pair well with the kitchen aesthetics while allowing the nook itself to be a charming new feature within the home.

On two walls of the family room, the existing arched top transom windows were replaced with squared off transoms and the lower two windows were replaced with one large, tall window. Window grids were reduced and new wainscotting with a modern painted wood trim design at the fireplace replaced the previous detailing. The fireplace now features a new gas insert and an eye-catching patterned marble tile surround. These modifications simplify the overall style of the room and accomplish the fresh and contemporary transitional look our clients were seeking.

The outdated powder room, with a very traditional dark brown wallpaper, neutral tile flooring, and ornate light fixture and plumbing hardware, was fully transformed. What now exists is a beautiful walnut vanity with Carrara marble counter, satin brass faucet, pivot mirror and wall sconces, teal painted board and batten wainscot, and marble basketweave floor tile. These striking improvements include flipping the toilet and vanity locations so the first impression upon entry is on the eye-catching bath vanity set off by the surrounding rich teal wainscot.

Upstairs, goals included a remodel of the hall bath to be shared by their two teenage boys. Large scale floor tile was selected for a concrete appearance and to be forgiving with the boys’ upkeep. The existing tub was replaced by a large, tiled shower with toiletry ledge, rain head, and hand shower. Glossy blue subway wall tile in a herringbone pattern at each end of the shower is accented with white and gray marble oval penny tile. A large double vanity provides individual space for each boy when getting ready. Blue paint on the walls coordinates perfectly with the bath wall and floor tiles, white horizontal shiplap wainscot, and black plumbing fixtures and cabinetry hardware for a clean, masculine appearance.

Connecting the first and second floors, the foyer and rear stairs were both updated to include new six-inch square newel posts and coordinating square balusters painted a fresh bright white with dark walnut-stained top caps and handrail. Complementary to the color scheme of the adjacent living room, the rear stair received a new carpet runner that also continues onto the second-floor hall floor.

Finishing out the home interior remodel, the aesthetic of the laundry/mud room was transformed making it another feature of the first floor. New faux slate floor tile in a herringbone pattern hides entry dirt from the garage while creating a striking contrast with the existing crisp white wainscot paneling, natural stain bench, and light gray cabinetry.

This successfully completed remodel exemplifies Harth’s focused efforts and professional commitment to make each client’s home be their favorite place!
