Our Lansdale clients love to entertain and needed more room to do so! They approached Harth seeking to complete the large unfinished lower level of their home. Their wish list of rooms included a kitchenette, dining area, living room, bar/wine room, office, gym, full bath with sauna, and unfinished storage space. A design constraint was existing ductwork that ran the full length of the lower level. However, by intentionally placing key entertaining areas including the kitchenette, dining, and living room where the ceiling could be the highest, the ductwork was used as an advantage to create delineations between spaces and the office, gym, and bath were located where a higher ceiling was less important to our clients. To maximize and increase natural light, priority was also given to positioning the entertaining areas adjacent to the existing windows and walkout slider doors all of which were replaced. To bring natural light to the “windowless” rooms, black metal framed glass partitions were designed and built to share light from the entertaining spaces while maintaining separation and decreasing sound transmission.
Unfinished walls and concrete slab floors have been transformed into a stunning, contemporary lower level, precisely what our clients had in mind! The creative, spacious layout is perfect for their entertaining with comfortable flow between spaces, built-in storage including at the bench seating flanking both sides of the linear gas fireplace, and well-planned accent and task lighting. Kitchenette finishes include a combination of maple painted inset cabinetry, eye-catching Kalahari quartzite counters, a stacked tile backsplash with natural color variation, and satin brass pendants and Perrin and Rowe plumbing fixtures. Black accents on the kitchenette cabinetry are carried throughout the lower level and are exquisitely featured in the bar/wine room’s Honed Silver Waves quartzite counters with waterfall sides, quartzite backsplashes with scalloped corners, black framed glass wall, shelving, and wall-mounted wine holders, and black painted ceiling. Additional striking bar/wine room compliments include Phillip Jefferies Burled Chevron wallpaper in Emerald Isle, Perrin and Rowe Armstrong wall-mounted faucets, and Thompson Traders Tamayo hammered brass sink. White oak engineered flooring and neutral accents throughout the lower level provide continuity including the Holly Hunt Marram Latte wallpaper and stained white oak cabinetry featured in the office. Finishes in the spacious full bath and sauna include natural walnut cabinetry with vertical reeded doors, Nordic Crystal quartzite counters, large format porcelain floor tile, and House of Rohl antique gold faucet and shower fixtures. This lower level remodel showcases Harth’s exceptional design-build talent and provides what we seek to do most of all – the opportunity to make our clients’ home their favorite place to be!
