Our Lower Gwynedd client approached us dreaming of a two-story addition being added to their home. Included in their hopes for the extra square footage were a mudroom, powder room, and large office on the first floor and a primary suite with bath and walk-in closet on the second floor. Their dreams were accomplished and exceeded their expectations!
On the first floor, access to the new office is via French doors that provide both privacy and visual accessibility. The generously sized office has ample space for two desks as well as comfortable lounge seating so the new room can double as a sitting room. Dark stained, random-width hickory hardwood in the office is complemented by a sophisticated deep blue accent wall that ties in beautifully with the original stone, left exposed, between the existing home and the addition. The exposed stone gives rich character and serves as an eye-catching feature, both in the office and the mudroom. The new first floor powder room and mudroom are accessed via an attractive, light-filled breezeway with dark stained wood beams, decorative lantern pendants, and faux slate tile floor in a herringbone pattern. In the mudroom, custom wall paneling and upper storage cabinets are painted a rich medium green accent color and pair handsomely with the natural stained wood bench with open shoe storage below. Conversely, the powder room features a striking blue paint on contemporary vertical shiplap, a dramatic backdrop for the bright white vanity and champagne bronze finish on the faucet and wall sconce.
Their new, spacious second-floor primary suite includes a large walk-in closet, tray ceiling with cove lighting, and a beautiful primary bath. The bath floor plan features a large shower with two showering spaces and toiletries ledge, custom double vanity with three-inch mitered edge quartz counter, dedicated make-up vanity, linen storage, and private water closet. The bath color palette includes fresh, light neutral floor and wall tile with sophisticated marble-like veining, deep stained walnut cabinetry, and champagne bronze accents on the plumbing fixtures and cabinetry hardware. Windows on each of the three exterior walls bring in an abundance of daylight that is shared across the room, including two windows within the large shower.
Outside, new James Hardie lap siding in Cobblestone, a warm neutral color, was replaced on the existing home as well as installed on the addition for a fresh, consistent appearance. New black shutters create the perfect contrast and coordinate beautifully with the existing exposed stone. Stone veneer that matches the existing stone was incorporated into the new foundation to support the illusion that the addition was part of the original home. From exterior to interior, this very successful two-story addition provides impressive new features to the home including ample extra space to serve the family and be enjoyed for many years to come!
