Our Lower Gwynedd clients approached Harth seeking help with the layout of their first floor. The primary entrance to their large home was through the garage and required using a very narrow hall to access the kitchen and living spaces beyond. The existing kitchen felt small due to low soffits, and they wanted their louvered style cabinetry updated. After thoroughly discussing their needs and wants, Harth’s team transformed their first floor by repurposing spaces and creating the optimal flow between them. No need for an addition! The full first floor remodel included expanding the kitchen into the adjacent nook, converting their dining room into a much-needed office, changing an unused living space into their new dining room, and expanding the laundry with minor space from the original kitchen. Relocating their oversized powder room eliminated the narrow hall and enabled the creation of a new mudroom adjacent to the garage.
The results are spectacular both functionally and aesthetically! The stunning new and expanded kitchen features extensive counterspace in Taj Mahal quartzite, custom walnut hood with satin brass accent banding, large apron front sink, and generous twelve-foot island with seating for six. The beautiful combination of off-white and walnut cabinetry is complemented by full-height Zellige-style backsplash. Panel-ready appliances provide a clean, monolithic look in the kitchen and at the new bar cabinetry. The existing bay window was replaced and raised to align with the nearby window, both of which provide ample natural light into the first floor. A new cased opening provides additional access to the now centrally located dining room and allows natural daylight to be shared from the front to the rear of the home. The new bar cabinetry featuring wall-mounted glass display shelving is conveniently located in proximity to the kitchen and all entertaining spaces. A converted walk-in coat closet has been transformed into a generous pantry.
Each first-floor room has fresh touches – from the built-in shelving flanking the sides of the fireplace to the fun bursts of color and pattern introduced via wallpaper and paint in the new powder room and expanded laundry. Aesthetic continuity throughout the first floor is furthered via the installation of new dark stained hardwood flooring that matches the kitchen and bar cabinetry. This exquisite remodel accomplished all of our clients’ goals and will be enjoyed for many years to come!”
