Lower Gwynedd Primary Bath and Dressing Room

Our Lower Gwynedd clients were seeking a renovation and fresh appearance to their large primary bath and its adjacent rooms. The original floor plan included passing through a dark, outdated dressing room with multiple closets to gain access to the primary suite. The dressing area was disconnected from the primary closet and did not have adequate storage. Similarly, access to the primary bath was remote and required inconvenient travel through the primary bedroom. Within the primary bath, our client had a variety of dislikes to be addressed: a Jacuzzi bathtub that took up too much space in the room, a dark and small shower, a water closet with a separate bidet that was never used, and an existing aesthetic that did not feel cohesive with the age of the house.

Harth’s team carefully evaluated the existing layout and desires of our clients and a gorgeous transformation took place. Just enough square footage from the primary bath was taken so the existing dressing room could be enlarged to become a primary suite entry room with seating for the husband and wife to be together while getting ready. Custom cabinetry was added to create a large, symmetrical dressing/make up vanity with centered mirror flanked by wall sconces and interior-lit wall cabinets. Pocketed wall cabinets doors, easy to tuck away, with wire mesh gold inlay screens with glass shelving provide the perfect new location to display the wife’s purse collection.

To create better flow and allow natural light from the primary bath into the new primary suite entry room, a double pocket door was added to connect the rooms and the existing bypass doors to the primary bedroom were changed to a cased opening. The existing drop-in tub was replaced with a smaller freestanding soaking tub and moved to be centered under the window to balance the physical and visual weight of the space and offer a better view while soaking. The existing long counter with double sinks was replaced with separate his and her vanities with matching marble counters and custom-shaped marble backsplashes that perfectly complement the satin brass framed mirrors, wall sconces, and faucets. The footprint of the shower almost doubled in size and was repositioned to include large glass panels that bring in more natural light, a long built-in tiled bench, and recessed toiletries niche. Conveniently located adjacent to the shower, an alcove was created with floating storage shelves for towels along with hamper space below. The existing bidet was removed. The new aesthetic is appropriate to the age of the home, an elegant and timeless style created by using a mixture of marble on the floors and counters, inset style cabinetry with bun feet, and a traditional subway tile with textured border on the walls along with tile chair rail and tile baseboards. Colors include bright, clean white and light gray tiles, muted soft blue grass cloth, and satin brass plumbing fixtures and cabinetry hardware. A nature-inspired crane wallpaper in the primary suite entry room provides an eye-catching welcoming feature to the newly renovated spaces.

Project scope also included renovation of the laundry room with a relocated utility sink for better positioning within the room and introduction of a combination front load washer/dryer for better floor space utilization so cabinetry storage could be increased. Black appliance, countertop, and plumbing fixtures are coordinated with the matte black cabinetry hardware, striking gray painted cabinetry, and hexagon floor tile for a clean, modern aesthetic.

Throughout, this project successfully accomplished our clients’ goals and desires and provides beautiful spaces to be fully utilized and enjoyed for many years to come!
